Scraps in Disguise

Finally, a finished project! This one really pleases me because
#1 it was cheap,
#2 it was easy,
#3 it hides some of my (s)crap(s)!

I bought this ugly white crate from Wally World for $5 -
and turned it into this! Ta Da! Cute, huh?
These are all of my little bitty bits of fabric that I just can't bring myself to throw away. Well, they are useful - see! I used little tiny bits to spell out "Bits" - thank goodness I didn't throw away those scraps of green floral sheet, huh?? The lining is an old tablecloth - it's stained, and just sort of plain - very "cream" colored, which didn't put it at the front of the queue for sewing projects. The bark cloth looks like "grandma's drapes" - well, not my grandma's drapes, but someone's grandma's drapes.....huh?
This one has cut up pieces of my husbands work shirts and suit pants.......yes, this is a little wierd, I realize...but I have used them to make some fun stuff. And...that wool fabric and shirting material isn't always cheap from the fabric store. Plus, I just like to say that I made this vest from my husband's pants - hee hee! (By the way, he hates that vest, always trying to sway me to wear something else when I pull it out :)
Ok, so if you want to make one for yourself - you need to go HERE. This is a super cute blog - full of really colorful pictures, great tutorials and inspiration - Paint in My Hair. Laura Gunn is the author - she's got a great eye for all things crafty....think I have a little blog crush here!

Looks great! I've been tossing my scraps lately, but I know I'll live to regret that.

I'm so glad you posted this! I've been wanting to do this same thing with my old crates and just couldn't quite picture it. This gives me the perfect inspiration.
Thanks!

Andee - I used to have a 4" rule about my scraps - if they weren't at least 4 inches square, I tossed them. But - for some reason I can't do that now - I use little bitty pieces of stuff all the time. Trouble is, my storage space is getting stuffed!

What a great idea - just the thing for hiding those crates, can't wait to get started!

Yeah! And what's cool is, you can customize them to any size crate you might have - or basket - super easy!

If I can find cheap plastic crates, I need some like yours, I'll try it. I gave a link at my blog for to share this beautiful idea with my friends...

banuca - thanks for the link! I've noticed a good number of visitors to my site from Turkey and I think it's wonderful! Good luck with your project - you really can use the instructions for any dimensions. I'm thinking of doing several more for my closet as well!
