The Blue Coat

This little blue coat belonged to my husband as a little boy. It's been hanging in my son's closet since he was an infant, waiting for the day when he could wear it.

Well, he can wear it - and I decided to load the kiddies up and take them out to take a few pictures. I just had their Christmas pictures taken, and stressed over what outfits for them to wear - wish I had remembered then, that this little coat was in his closet.Ah well, the donning of the coat has been documented - I'm loving the pictures. Love my camera - a Nikon D60 - great camera!

and Great kids :)

Holly Hobby Sheets and Blingy Jeans Fashion Emergency

One of my dear friends requested me to make her and her daughter matching pajama pants out of her Holly Hobby sheets that she had as a child. I don't know why, but this project was so hard for me to start! I think it was because I was making them for a friend, and I was also using her treasured sheet - so if I screwed up, there was no going back!, or just throwing it into the scrap pile and using it for something else later.
Anyway, I think they turned out super
cute - now I just hope I was able to get the measurements correct and that they fit like they are supposed to. I was even able to make a matching pair for an American Girl dolly - what do you think?

The picture taking skills weren't the best this morning - sorry bout that. I've been running around like a chicken with out a head these last few days (like many of you mommies out there!) It doesn't matter what I have on my to-do list, Christmas is going to come on Dec. 25th, and I will not have everything done that I intended, that's just the way it goes. But, Christmas will come to pass, and I'm sure it will be a fun one, with my family being way too spoiled in the gifts department, food department, entertainment department, etc. (well, maybe not the clean house department....that one is failing miserably!)

The kiddies are excited because they will have a sitter tomorrow night. The hubbs and I are headed to Dallas...in a limo....dinner at "Bobs" (love the pickles and homemade bread :) yum) - it's actually a great, swanky, white table cloth, steak place....then off to a Mavericks game with some friends. How fun does that sound?! Just add some booty shakin tunes to the mix and I'm good to go...but

WAIT! WHAT DO I WEAR???!!!!
Seriously - can't be too formal b/c of the basketball game, but need to be dolled up to some degree, b/c afterall, we are taking a limo and we are eating at Bob's....
So, I decided that I needed new swanky/blingy jeans to wear....my little boy has been drug all over town this morning, first to the boutique where low and behold (thanks to the advice of my fashion forward friend!!!!!!) I was able
to buy not one, but 2 pair of jeans....then off to the tailor to have them hemmed (I do sew, but....don't have the machine you need for the double thread most jeans have) - and lucky me, she's going to have them finished in time to wea
r them to the game tomorrow! Little boy got lunch at McDonald's..so he's happy.
Fashion Disaster Adverted! (Yes, that is my butt - you go right ahead and believe that, I'll let you .)
(wait....what about jewelry?)

Shhhh..... It's a Secret

Shhhh...it's a secret. There are 3 certain little boys in my family that will be getting matching robes for Christmas this year. One belongs to me, two belong to my sister in Indiana.
Now to ship them off. Surprisingly I should be able to do it without paying overnight shipping, wow! that never happens to me. Usually a day late and a dollar short. Well, they aren't in the mail yet - so we'll see!
One project checked off the list. On to the next - this time several customer orders.
Hope you're getting your list of to do's marked off too!

Snowing at the Homestead

Woke up this morning to "It's snowing! It's snowing! It's snowing!" We get real excited around here when it snows. My parents arrived yesterday afternoon from Indiana - they like to escape to Texas for the warmer weather, don't think they are getting much of an escape this visit! The kids are excited though - and frankly, I like the change in the weather too!
I've got some great vintagey stuff to share with you soon - Mom and I will be getting my Christmas decorations out today and tomorrow. Trying to get ready for my Trunk Show on Monday (do you live close by?? Would love to have you over - lots of great shopping! - Support Handmade, you know!). Contact me and I'll send you an invite :)
So, Mom and Dad brought me these awesome plastic candles and a cute snowman - they plug in - may have to replace the bulbs, we'll see.
My head is spinning today, too much going on, ....I need a personal assistant I think. Shopping, blogging, Etsy posting, baking, decorating, site seeing, the list goes on and on......
Oh! AND - my sewing machine quit working yesterday!!! I about died. Thank the Sewing Machine gods though - the repair guy actually called me last night at 5:30pm (after dropping it off at 9:30am) and said that it was DONE! He initially said that it would take a "few days", so I'm thinking....ok, I'm without a sewing machine for a good week - at Christmas time, not a good deal....so I started asking around and several sweet, sweet friends offered their machines for me to borrow - then Low and Behold! Sweet, sewing machine repair man called! Yeah!!!!!
Got to run make more coffee, and take care of the fam. See you!

Scenes from the Beach

Just some pictures from the beach. We had a great time - great weather too. Kids loved the sand, and indoor pool, of course. Beautiful sunsets...... Spending time with a much loved uncle and Grandma......A trip to Bellingrath Gardens to see the Christmas Lights - it's beautiful - you really need to go if you're in the area this season.

Had to include this picture - of my hubby and I - Have you ever been to the Flora Bama?? It's touted as the Last Great American Roadhouse - sits right on the Florida/Alabama line in Perdido Key. Yes,....those are bras hanging from the ceiling (none of which belong to me, I assure you)! Quite the experience I must tell you! We tucked the kiddies into bed, left them with their grandma, and walked next door to look for a little fun. Absolutely the best people watching place I've been to in a long time!
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving - I cannot believe it's Christmas time. Wish I could make time stop for a week or so, so that I could get all of my to-do list items crossed off - then sit back with a hot toddy and just enjoy. Ahh....getting ready for another Trunk Show on Monday...if you're in the area, I love to see you!

Coming Down from the High

I had an awesome girls weekend and am slowly coming down from the excitement - back to reality! Good reality, just different reality. You all know by now that I'm a huge Twilight fan, and unless you live in a dark cave on a different planet - you've heard about the New Moon release! Aw! I was able to see it twice- once on Friday and then again on Saturday. So much fun - and shared with a dear friend that totally "gets it" - which makes the experience that much more fun.We also took a little road trip east to Dallas in order to see Sam Bradley & the Men perform at The Loft. Sam contributed to the Twilight soundtrack and I was able to see him perform back in July. Such a heart felt performer - he loves his music, loves performing, and so do his fans. If you like, raw, unpretentious music, you'll love his.
I'm realizing that I look extremely short, and a bit like Pocahontis with my fringy boots....or maybe I'm reminding myself of a short, Scottish woman wearing a kilt (it's not a kilt trust me, thought the ruffly skirt was a thumbs up..o well, win some, you lose some).... in this picture.... o well.
Well, since this isn't really a blog about music; although it is my blog,
and I love this music but...- guess I'd better fill you in on what I've been up to with Whoopsie Daisies! Answer is....not a lot of sewing, but a fair amount of posting on Etsy. I've managed to get all of my Tooth Fairy Pillows listed and will be working to get more coffee cozies listed shortly. Are you ready for Black Friday? Get your keyboards warmed up and ready! I know lots of Etsy sellers will be offering free shipping on Friday - count me in too - all purchases on Friday will receive free standard shipping - Whoop! Contain the excitement people.
My family is getting ready to shove off to the beach for a few days over the Thanksgiving holiday, so I'm trying to squeeze in what Whoopsie stuff I can in between my other responsibilities.

The Christmas Garland

I'm finally recovering from the show last week. So much work to get ready and 4 days of fun (1 set-up, 3 show days). So much to think about in terms of - where are my children, and who is watching them?, did I grab enough $$ for change?, did I eat breakfast (I'm hypo-glycemic...get a little loopy if I don't eat!)?, where are my children?, why did I wear these shoes that are killing my feet after 15 minutes? Got to make more crocheted hats....did I bring the yarn?....and did I mention, where are my children? and who is watching them?! (By the way....I have some AWESOME friends, that have been an enormous help to me - I'm so thankful for you all!) Just a little stressful - but that's OK. I met some really fun people and had a fun time too.
So, during my down time at the show (yes, unfortunately, there was down time), I
started crafting in my head this Christmas Garland.
I took an old, stained, holey tablecloth and cut pieces from it, stitched them together, embroidered some cute words, added vintage buttons and trim, and ......Viola! I love it so much!
I would have posted it to Etsy, but, alas, ....it has been purchased and is going to a new home already! To be loved I am sure. I love how this old forgotten tablecloth has found new life and love - to be enjoyed by a new family this holiday season.

Bada Ba Ba....."The Final Countdown"

Wow - I just had a flashback from high school - I swear my hair looked exactly like the lead singer!index.php.jpg
I tried to get the video for you, but it's not letting me....could be my lack of sleep lately, YouTube, or just my lack of intelligence....regardless - take a look at the video by clicking on the link - it may bring back some memories!
Then, click the "play" button for the Dance Remix version and you'll get the general feeling....
The Final Countdown in my mind is on - and it's just 24 hours away. I think I'm ready for this 3 day show. Never done a 3 day show before - so I'm just hoping that I have enough goodies to sell. Of course, I hope that everything sells out on the first day! Wouldn't that be nice?! Then I could just take orders the rest of the week. Keep dreaming....

Loverly Potholders......

Notice the "boy" tooth fairy pillow? Trying to meet the needs of my customers ya know.
More cup cozies (formerly known as coffee cozies) - I was reminded by a dear friend that yes, "coffee cozies" can be used as "coke cozies" or "pop cozies" (for my peeps in the midwest) and "tea cozies" and I suppose any "cozy-ing" of a beverage you need.
This is a picture of my sewing room - it's utter chaos.

This is the floor of my sewing room - again, utter chaos. Oh, wait, I do see some carpet - so it's not totally trashed... yet.

Don't Hate Me.....

I have been rewarded! I can't believe my luck! Look what was practi
cally given to me as I was driving home from taking my girl to school this morning!

Garage sale - SCORE!
After hours, upon hours, upon hours of sewing into the wee hours, My family suffering through a dirty house, unwashed clothing, dinners from the freezer at best, and not much sleep (sick child too)....
I think the gods are with me.
5 tablecloths and 1 huge pillowcase!

What shall these pretty tablecloths become??? I'm headed to the fabric store this morning, much to my son's dismay (he's been known to cry as we enter the parking lot), to purchase more interfacing and more batting. Still making coffee cozies and tooth fairy pillows. Need to make more burp cloths, diaper wipes pouches, aprons, pj pants, the list goes on and on. Other ideas floating around in my head, just not enough time to create them.
Is there ever enough time? I don't think so. Not for me anyway. I've got too many things I want to do. Life is short. Think I'll try and have some fun. Not in the mood to follow the rules today.

Holiday Bazaar & Silent Auction in Fort Worth

I'd love to see some of you - stop by Booth #3!!!
My fingers are sore from pushing pins, my eyes are strained, my needles are breaking! But....boy have I got some totally cute stuff! Just hoping I can get enough to fill a 9x9 booth. It's been a few years since I've done a real show. I had to wait until my "baby" was old enough that allowed me some time to sew and create.
If you live close by, this one really is a good show - a great Silent Auction too. You be glad you came!

Still....Making Pumpkins!

I am still making pumpkins! I've created a monster I think....who knew so many people had birthdays, needed to be thanked, or just needed a little "happy" during the months of September and October?? This particular one is headed to Indiana for a belated birthday gift to my mom.
I do love making them. You can mix and match any sort of fabric and embellish them in all sorts of creative ways. I've started hot glueing the crocheted leaves and the twine on them. The raffia is a cute touch too.
That's it for today. I'm crazy busy getting ready for another Holiday show in November. It will be held at the University Christian Church in Fort Worth. I'll have more details for you as soon as they send me an official e-mail with the flyer. The little boy is in pre-school today....got to get to it!!!

Retro Garage Sale Treasures!

Look what I found at a garage sale over the weekend!
I love these plastic Santa's. I actually picked one up at Round Top last year and fell in love with them. I couldn't believe my luck over the weekend! He was only $1! (I didn't pay $1 for my Round Top Santa). Just sitting there on a table waiting for me to find him. I also love these Shiny Brites Christmas ornaments. Look at the picture above - see Uncle Sam and Santa shaking hands?! I'm planning to have 2 large plastic candles and a snowman coming to me from Indiana this year also - won't they be too cute with Santa?? I think I'm just going to leave Santa out until Christmas - my boy especially seems to be infatuated with him. I told him to be a good boy because Santa is watching.....so he promptly took Santa and hid him in a corner! Smart boy. Santa is definitely staying out!
