Am I The Only One Who Does This??

Well, I had this pile of clothes that were headed to the GoodWill Bin - but, really they were in pretty rough shape. So, I was considering putting them in the kitchen trash along with the coffee grounds and moldy vegetables (and probably the remote control that my 3 year old son has decided needs to be thrown away). But...instead...my crafty brain took over and I realized what great stuff I had destined for the trash! So I went dumpster diving in my own dumpster so to speak.
My daughter's leggings had this great thick elastic on the waistband and cute black elastic lace around the legs. Couldn't let that go to waste! So, snip, snip, and rip, rip and viola! These were a pair of maternity shorts that I wore for both kids and they were given to me by a friend....so, they had really had a full and long life. You can see where my big ole butt got to be too much for the pockets and I had to stitch them up previously. But....I got to looking at the pockets and buttons...and, "o what's that?", some great trim down the leg - I might need that someday! Rip, Rip, Snip, Snip. This pair of sandals were too small for my girl. But...those flowers are too cute - I could use those on something! Rip, Rip.So, look what I got out of my trash today! A good way to vent frustration too - just get out your scissors, seam ripper and well- it's more fun using your hands to rip away!
Am I the only one who does this??
Off to sew more pumpkins before my littlest pumpkin wakes up and my other pumpkin gets off the school bus. Speaking of pumpkins....did you know that Dreyers has a new flavor of ice cream for fall?! Pumpkin flavor! yum yum.

I have done similar things with clothes destined for the trash. You got some great stuff...I especially love the flowers from the sandals!

I am trying this message thing and hope it works. I just had to leave a comment on this one because I am busting a gut right now, I just did the same thing last night. I had some work shirts that were not fit for work anymore but I cut every one of the buttons off because you never know when you might need those. Wanted to let you know too that I learned the needle tatting and just love it. Now I need to find more time to do it. Take care, love to see what you are up to.

Yeah Tina! You left a comment :) It worked just fine! OK, it must have been a raised a "4-Her" thing, because I just can't leave buttons on an old shirt either! That instinct comes down the generations I think! Tatting is fun, isn't it? I'm needing more time to do it though too!

Hi, I just found your site via my friend, Amy Hetzler-Milner. Love the "dumpster diving" part. I save the buttons off old shirts, too, and any scrap of "frou frou" fabric so my youngest daughter can use it for one of her little creations. My problem is that I save the stuff, but rarely get around to actually using it. I have small bins full of saved stuff and worry now that I am going to end up on an episode of "Hoarders"!

Margaret - thanks for stopping by! It is an addiction and can be a problem saving all the little bits. But, some of my most prized finds have been stashes of goodies that someone else saved 30,40,50 or more years ago! Who knows who will love and create with your goodies!
